Weight Loss Chronicles

The "Weight Loss Chronicles" continue...

Not too much to report on the weight loss front.  I'm down a total of 17 pounds now since I started my journey.  It's coming off slowly, but surely.

This weekend was a tough one though; we attended a family wedding out of town.  One of my all-time favorites is wedding cake.  Not sure what it is, but wedding cake always tastes extra special.  Plus, I had Chicken Cordon Bleu as my entree, which was yummy, but oh so fattening!

So, with our travel stops (can you say McDonald's coming and going),  the goodies at the wedding, eating out, and breakfast buffet at the hotel, I'm not anticipating a loss this week.  But, I'll take it in stride and keep on keeping on.

And try to remember...

Another Work in Progress...

I have another work in progress...

and that is my weight loss.

I have great news to share...

I'm down 14 pounds since I started on my weight loss journey!

(happy dance inserted here)

I'm really starting to see a difference and today put on some crop pants that I haven't been able to wear in a few years.

Exciting stuff!

My sister decided to join Weight Watchers with me,
so now I have a buddy to accompany me on my journey.

Everything is coming up roses.

Yummy Fruit

About two weeks ago, I switched from the South Beach diet to the new Weight Watchers plan.  So far, I'm really liking it and feel like I'm starting to get into the "groove".

South Beach was a very restrictive diet and just wasn't for me for the long term.  It gave me a good kick start though, and I'm still off caffeine, just drinking decaffeinated beverages.  I'd read lots of good things about the new Weight Watchers plan, so I thought I'd give it a try.

One of the things I like best about the new plan, for those of you who are familiar with Weight Watchers, is that fruit is now "free"; that is, you don't have to use your daily points allowance for fruit.  It's been fun getting all sorts of colorful fruit for me and the family to enjoy.

My weigh ins are on Wednesday evenings.  So far, I've only lost 2.6 pounds on the new plan; don't forget I had that big birthday cake in there since I've joined!  If nothing else, I'm feeling better, not as sluggish and I have more energy.  Now if it would ever stop raining, dear son and I could get outside and get moving too!

Hope your week is going well.

Happenings With The Diet...

Well....OK, I will likely never be this thin (or tan for goodness sake) again.  But wouldn't it be nice!  LOL!

I'm plugging away on the diet front and am in my fourth week of the South Beach Diet.  I just switched over to Phase II on Monday, I'll be curious to see how my body adjusts to adding carbohydrates back into my diet.

Good news is that I've lost nine pounds (yeah!); first goal met.  My next goal is ten pounds.  I'm thinking that will be a little slower going, but maybe by the end of April?

I'm hoping the weather will start cooperating and that I'll be able to get outside with some daily walking.

I was in my 20's in this photo and having fun in Myrtle Beach.  Like I said, I'll likely never be this thin again; it was (cough, cough) more than 20 years ago.

Steps Toward Success...

My first week on the big "D" (diet) went pretty well.  I'm striving each day to do something toward my weight loss goal.  It's going to be a lengthy journey, but it will be worth it.

I'm down 3 pounds!  Yeah!  Yippee!  Hurray!

My successes for the week were in recording what I ate 5 out of 7 days (I always struggle on Saturday and Sunday with portion control and choosing healthy foods) and I walked on the treadmill Monday through Friday for 15 minutes each day.

All in all, a good first week.

It's Monday again, so a fresh start to a new week.

Joy in success!  (Even in small increments.)

Craisin and Sunflower Salad

I'm pleased with my first day of the big diet.  I exercised like I wanted to and ate healthy - good start.

The simple salad I made last night for dinner turned out really well, so I thought I'd share it with you.  The measurements are for an individual serving.

  • 5 oz boneless/skinless chicken breast broiled and thinly sliced
  • 2-3 C (approx.) Spring Mix lettuce
  • 2 T Craisins
  • 1 T Sunflower Kernels
  • 1/4 C Seasoned Croutons
  • 2 T Kraft Lite Raspberry Vinaigrette

(My dinner salad had a total of 9 Weight Watcher points)

I just layered everything on individual plates and served with blueberry muffins.

When I make this again, I'll add some grape or cherry tomatoes and maybe a little red onion.

Joy in a successful first day!

It's "D" Day!

As in Diet with a capital "D".  The "battle" of the bulge starts today.
This isn't a new fight.  It's a war I've waged for most of my life....

As a teen, I opted not to eat.....much.  Then in my 20's, I was successful (a couple of times) with Weight Watchers.  In my 30's, while in the business world, The South Beach Diet was all the "rage" and I was able to be successful with it.

In my 40's now, I've been resting on my "laurels" so to speak and the weight has really "crept" up on me.  I don't exercise like I used to and I have to confess, I eat way more ice cream than any adult woman should!

So, the big day has arrived.  And, I have a plan, although it isn't a formal one.

I'm going to start walking on my treadmill (at a slow pace, I'll build myself up), and I've dug out my old Weight Watchers materials that I'll use to (hopefully) get myself back on track.

Joy in day one.
