Me and The GE Commercial...

Someone suggested I find the GE TV commercial on You Tube, I never thought to do that, but I FOUND IT!

I'm on for a nano-second in two different sections of the commercial.  You'll just see my back and my hair is pulled back in a bun.  I'm the one standing in the engine (and wearing a skirt) in the video at 0:11 and 0:36:

:-)

Here's another photo of me (and the young man) that was also in the commercial.

He really was an engineer.
:-)

Ahhhhhh, to be in my 20's again...

That was a fun walk down memory lane.
Thanks for sharing it with me.

A moment lasts all of a second, but the memory lives on forever.

Summer Evening...

It's a cool summer evening...
I can hear the sound of dear husband cutting the grass...
and laughter as the little one runs through the yard blowing bubbles...

I went to inspect the flowers...
my little froggy friend is about to be overtaken by impatiens...

He doesn't seem to mind and wears a perpetual grin...

My pink rose bush is growing like a weed and has new growth...
blooms...
and buds...
growing in all different directions.

We've had so much rain lately everything is lush and green...
and another storm is brewing...

It's about time for the fireflies to come out...
and flash their yellow glow in the fading light.

Wishing you a pleasant evening and sweet summer sounds as your day draws to a close...

And Summer Begins...

After lunch yesterday dear son and I headed to the park to enjoy the beautiful day and celebrate the end of school for the year.

He had a blast burning off energy on the play set and then we walked around the pond and enjoyed watching the ducks.

And, just in case we had a mind to...

there were signs posted all around reminding us...

I'm not sure who they think would swim in this little pond, but I suppose it might tickle some one's fancy...

This is a Veterans Memorial Park, so we took some time to remember...

so that we don't forget...

We ended the day with a fun dinner of homemade pizza and fresh pineapple.

It was a great start to what promises to bee...

a beautiful summer...

The Tablecloth Tale...

About a month ago, I received a package in the mail from my mother and enclosed was a family heirloom to be treasured....

My grandparent's crochet tablecloth.

The history of this beauty is still a little sketchy, but my mother and I have been able to piece together a few clues and discover that it was made by my great grandmother as a wedding gift for my grandparent who were married in 1943.

My grandmother kept a little diary of some of the wedding gifts she received and this lovely item is listed in her book as made by "Mom".

Knowing my love of the craft, my mother passed this gem onto me and it now graces my dining room table.

I'm so glad that my grandmother took care of this piece and that it has been loving used and cared for by her, then my mother, and now to me.

The tablecloth is stained, but as an on-line friend said, that creates the history of the piece.  It's had a life and I'm hoping to continue with the tradition of this treasured family item.

And, someday, I hope I can pass it on to my son's wife for her to treasure for special family meals.

I wonder what the lifetime expectancy is for cotton thread?

Sad Day For The Trees...

We had to have some Locust Trees taken down today....Some of our recent wind and ice storms have taken their toll on the poor old trees...

As you can see, they had to bring in a crane...the trees are taller than the telephone pole by a good 10 -15 feet...

How would you like to be the brave worker who gets hoisted up by his safety belt with his chainsaw to take these down?

Three of the trees had to come down...

One of the trees was twisted and in danger of coming down on it's own and we were told another two were actually hollow on the inside.  Kind of dangerous, especially when you have a five year old playing ball, riding his bike and drawing with sidewalk chalk just below their overhangs.   One of the trees was responsible for a huge dead limb plopping down in the middle of our drive last winter.

The side lot looks a bit bare now...

The poor old trees have been wood chipped and will likely become mulch for some one's flower beds...

Good-bye old trees, we'll miss your natural beauty...

My Weekend...

A little of this and a little of that...

Saturday, it rained most of the day, which was really fine with me.  We had some nice family time in the afternoon, then I was able to get in a little of my hobby time...

This is the back and the right side of the Dainty Mesh Vest.  I'm very pleased with this so far and hope that it all goes together nicely.  I'm hoping to start working on the left side sometime this afternoon.

Sunday, after church and lunch, our little family headed out to the park and did one of the "fitness trails" they have.

Dear son and hubby enjoyed the calisthenics, I goofed around with those, but did enjoy the walk and looking for pretty little wild flowers along the way...

Today, it's a rainy-rainy day, but I have plenty to keep me busy.  I'm going to try to get the chores done early in the week as Thursday is a special day for me....I'll be turning 45...I can't believe it.  Hubby is going to take off from work and we have a fun day planned.  I'm looking forward to it.

Hope you have a great week!  :-)

A Beautiful Afternoon

Today felt like Spring.  We've had an incredibly cold spring so far with temps in the 20's and 30's, but today all that was forgotten with blue skies and 60 degree weather.  As you can see, we still don't have leaves on the trees, but hopefully, it won't be long now.

We went to the park so the little one could play on the play set and run around.  It was packed!  Everyone had the same idea.  Then we walked down by the lake to take a look at the ducks, the most colorful things were the boats moored at the dock.

We do have our first daffodil in the yard.  I know everyone is showing pictures of daffodils, but when you have the sunny flowers popping up in your yard, it's a true sign of the change of seasons.

We also had the above pretty little blue flower pop up.  I think its some form of ground covering (Vinca perhaps?).  We used to have a pond in our back yard with all sorts of flowers, plants and vegetation.  My husband deconstructed it about 4 years ago, but we still have different plants popping up from time to time.

I hope you are enjoying a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon!  Tomorrow, I hope to give you an update on all my crochet "works in progress".  Until then...

A Wonderful Spring Day!

This afternoon, my little family headed to our local Lowe's to look around.  Spring always makes me think of projects I'd like to do around the house.

Lowe's already had a few things in their garden center at a reasonable price, so we picked up a few shrubs.  I got a new Encore Azalea (bottom left in picture) to replace the azalea that died over the winter.  I also purchased the pot of daisy-like flowers that are supposed to be hardy to 35 degrees.  I thought they added some early spring color to my shady-spot garden.  The greens poking up through the ground is a large Hosta plant of an unknown variety.  Dear hubby placed Lovely Rachael in the garden and in a couple months, I'll be able to plant my pretty impatiens...

I also bought two more azaleas for the yard, but they are the ordinary kind that only bloom in the spring.  I put them by my forsythia bushes that I'm waiting impatiently patiently to bloom.

We raked up last years leaves, let me tell you, swinging that rake back and forth is good exercise!  There are plenty more to rake up and that job seems never ending. But, there will be more pretty spring days to work on the yard, I'm sure.

Joy in a pretty fresh-air day!

First Walk of Spring

After school lessons and lunch, dear son and I took our first Spring walk through the neighborhood.  It felt good to get out and stretch my legs while dear son burned off some energy riding his bike.

It was refreshing to get outside and see such prettiness...

The only things blooming were the crocuses, but their bright and cheery colors were good for the soul...

My crochet work has taken a bit of a backseat, but I'm still working on the Vintage Horizontal Stripe here and there.  I also have another project on my hook that I'll share with you when it's complete.  I'm looking forward to getting back into my routine...

Joy in early spring beauty...

Vintage Horizontal Stripe...

It's still a work in progress, but I wanted to get some pictures of the colors in the light...

We had a sunny day today, but the temperatures remained cool.  That's OK, because I'm starting to see some life pop up out of the ground!

Isn't it exciting!  After what has seemed like such a long winter.....

We are going to be a bit out of our routine this week...
My sister and her little ones will be coming over late tomorrow morning.  Their electric will be turned off all day due to some work they are having done.  I know the boys will have a ball playing together though...

Joy in the greens springing up from the ground, that brought a smile to my face and brightened my day.

I hope Spring is putting a "spring" in your step!

Balmy 35 degrees...

The temperatures stayed cool today.  Right now it's a balmy 35 degrees.  Our obscure sun is setting on the day that was mostly highlighted by shades of gray...

I stayed warm this afternoon though, working on dear sons new blanket.  I think I've made some decent progress over the weekend.  It's for the little guys twin bed, so I still have a way to go...

We have a few signs of spring, despite today's temperatures, as I noticed buds forming on our weeping cherry tree out front...

It's dark outside now...but, next week we'll have a little extra light at the end of the day with daylight savings time and setting our clocks forward.

A quiet Sunday evening and I'm wondering what's on Masterpiece Theater tonight?  I'll have to go check.

Wishing you a pleasant evening...

Rainy Day...

It's a rainy day here in Southwestern Ohio...

But all is well, because...

Buzz Lightyear, "who comes in peace", is out there protecting the universe...

In the classroom, we had a productive morning with our schoolwork...

with a new book on Trucks (Book 19; we are moving right along in the school year) and in Math, we are being introduced to fractions...today we talked about thirds...

Later today, I'm hoping to spend some quality time with my hook and yarn.  My crochet time has been seriously lacking this week...

Enjoying a quiet rainy day in my corner of the universe...

What is going on in your "quadrant"?

Chit-Chat...

Just popping in for a little chit-chat...

The sun decided to come out today; she is shining brightly in a pretty light blue sky.

With this in mind, I was able to get a few photos of a project I started this past Sunday...

It is the Vintage Vertical Stripe Afghan.  It's a super easy pattern, worked in double crochet stitches.  You can find the pattern by clicking the link.  I decided to do my stripes horizontally vs. vertically though...

For the pattern, I chained 135 and I am using an "I" hook.

This is the Vanna's Choice yarn I purchased this past summer.  I thought the colors went well with the "vintage" theme of the pattern.  I'm making it for my son's bedroom.  This will match the things in his room and orange just happens to be one of his favorite colors ...

It won't be long and the left side of our backyard fence-line will be alive with color...

I have a yellow dogwood back there along with an old "red bud".  Also, last year, I planted three forsythia bushes.  In another month or so, the neighbor's yard will fade away into a beautiful spring flowering tree display...

Easy dinner tonight of grilled chicken Cesar salads...I made some Italian herb bread in the bread machine to accompany the salads.

The bread is done.  It smells really, really good....

Enjoying some simple pleasures today...

Treasure Hunting...

Yesterday afternoon we took a little trip to one of our local thrift shops....

The sign outside says antiques...

But, most of the merchandise is from 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's.

I did come across two lovelies that I found quite inspiring...

And close-up...

"One of these days", I'd love to make an heirloom tablecloth like one of these.  Can you imagine the time that went into making something of this caliber?  Both were under $100...the more intricate one was $79 and the other was $55...

We didn't bring home any "treasures" from our adventure, but it was fun to look around.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
