Big 4-6

This past weekend, I celebrated another b-day.  Funny how they creep up on you.  Hubby gave me the pretty spring cake, it was very good.

On Saturday, we took about an hour road trip to Clifton, Ohio.  It's a little historic town that has an old mill where you can enjoy a meal.  Their pancakes were humongous!  I had mine with blueberries.

The mill sits right on the edge of a small gorge...

I was hoping to walk around the town a bit and there is also a nature trail that takes you down by the water, but it was raining so we had to enjoy what we could from the porch and window of the mill.

As I've mentioned before, we've been doing a lot of work around the house.  Yesterday, we got some bare patches in the yard tilled and grass seed planted.

As you can see, we still need to clean out the beds and have this waiting for us in the drive...

Nothing like fresh mulch to give the house some good curb appeal.

Luckily we've had a warm spring.  My irises have already started to bloom and it's only mid-April!

Cleaning out the landscaping beds is on the agenda for tonight.  If daylight holds out, we'll start to mulch.

Hope all is well in your neighborhood!

  1. Happy belated birthday! I'm very interested in your house-selling adventure, as my husband and I waiver about trying again to sell ours.

  9. Happy belated birthday, Heather! I just joined your blog today after following your progress for a few weeks. I love all your photos; I'm originally from Ohio and it makes me feel homesick.
I agree with Sharon; the mulch makes people know you take good care of your yard.

  14. Hi, Heather. This is my first visit to your blog, so Happy (belated) Birthday from a newbie!

I have just recently learned to crochet, and I was looking for an easy dish rag patter, which is how I ended up on your blog. Hope it's ok if I stop by now and then--or like everyday! :)

  16. Happy belated Birthday - glad you had a nice breakfast, even though it was raining. I like to explore little places that are out of the way and not that noticeable - there seems to be always something quaint to discover.

Happy gardening. I have no garden, just containers, but I'm planting something in them too - probably herbs and some Geraniums.

  18. I adore your spring post. Country life soothes the soul with its eye-candy.

Today I embark on the Cork pattern throw that your posted project inspired. I dislike my popcorn stitch so must practice it more. Hopefully, it will deserve a posting when completed!

    Happy Spring!
