Daydreaming Dishcloth Pattern

Last Friday evening, I headed out to Joann's to get a change of scenery.  I was armed with coupons I'd received in the mail recently, but I didn't have any intentions of buying anything.

Famous last words.  

I found this really pretty cotton yarn on sale and the colors reminded me of spring.  Since it doesn't look like we are going to get any snow this winter, I guess I'll start "daydreaming" about spring.  Hence my new dishcloths.  See below for my Daydreaming Dishcloth pattern.

Daydreaming Dishcloth

Materials: 

·         MC - 2.5 oz 100% cotton (I used Lily Sugar'n Cream - Rose Pink)

·         CC - 1 oz 100% cotton (I used Lily Sugar'n Cream - Lava Lamp)

·         I (5.50 mm) crochet hook

·         Blunt-end needle for weaving in ends

Finished Size:  9.5 inches square

Gauge:  4 inches = 7 shells across x 13 rows

Skill Level:  Easy

Special Stitches Used: 

·         Shell:  (sc, ch 2, sc) in indicated stitch

Note:  Turning chain (tch) has not been included in the stitch count.

Directions: 

Ch 27

Row 1 -   (RS) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (26 sc).

Row 2 -   ch 2, turn, sk 1st sc, shell (see special stitches) in next sc, *sk 1 sc, shell in next sc, repeat from * across to last 2 sc, sk 1 sc, sc in last sc (12 shells).

Row 3 -   ch 2, turn, working in ch-2 sps only, shell in each ch-2 sp across, sc in top of tch (12 shells).

Row 4 -   Repeat row 3 to desired length.  

End Row-ch 2, turn, working in ch-2 sps only, (2 sc) in each ch-2 sp across, sc in top of tch (25 sc).  Do not fasten off. 

Border:

Round 1- With RS facing, ch 1, sc evenly around work with (3 sc) in each corner, sl st to beg sc, fasten off.

Round 2- With RS facing, attach CC in any corner, ch 1, sc evenly around cloth with (3 sc) in each corner, sl st to beg sc.  Do not fasten off, do not turn work.

Round 3- ch 1, rev sc evenly around cloth, sl st to beg st, fast off.

Little Boy Blue Baby Blanket

My husband's niece and her husband welcomed a baby boy into their family the week of Christmas.  I wanted to send a little something to them, so I came up with this blanket.  

It's a very simple design, but I think the stitch pattern makes a pretty fabric and texture.  I wanted to have it for future reference, so wrote it up and thought I'd share it with you.

Little Boy Blue Baby Blanket

Size:  24" x 24"

"J" and "H" Hook

Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Caron Simply Soft)

 MC:  Off White 8 oz

 CC:  Blueberry 3 oz

Gauge:  4" square = 15 sts x 13 rows

With "J" Hook and MC ch 80

1.   sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (79 sc).  

2.   ch 2 (counts as sc and ch-1), sk 1st 2 sc, sc in next sc, *ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * across, turn (79 sts).   

3.   ch 2 (counts as sc and ch-1 now and throughout), sk sc and ch-1, sc in next sc, *ch 1, sk ch-1, sc in next sc, repeat from * across, turn (79 sts).

4.   repeat row 3 to desired length, turn; do not fasten off (the body of mine measured 20" x 20").

Border (I used an "H" hook):

Round 1:  Ch 1, sc evenly around work with (3 sc) in each corner, sl st in beg sc, fasten off, do not turn work. 

Round 2:  Attach CC in any corner, ch 1, sc in each sc around with (3 sc) in each corner, sl st in beg sc, do not fasten off, do not turn work.

Vintage Valentine Dishcloth

For a little Valentine cheer, I decided to stitch up a couple of dishcloths.  I usually give away the dishcloths I make to accompany a gift I've selected for someone.  I decided to keep these, with their vintage feel, for myself...

These are very easy to make using basic stitches; single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet.  A simple border completes them and reminds me of days gone by...

Vintage Valentine Dishcloth

Hook:  I

Worsted Weight 100% cotton yarn (I just used what I had on hand)

Finished size:  9 x 10

Note:  If you prefer a smaller dishcloth, try using a smaller hook such as an "h" or "g", or you could use a dk yarn vs. a worsted weight yarn.

I'd like to introduce you to something I've been working on for the past several days...

I'm thinking it would look nice made up in a solid off-white blanket with a picot or shell border.....but that's just me.

I did make this square numerous times trying to work out the kinks and trying to find any errors I may have made in writing it out.  That being said, if you come across something that doesn't make sense, or if you happen to find a mistake, please leave me a comment or send me an e-mail.

Citrus Twist Dishcloth

I wanted to include a couple of dishcloths with a family member's Christmas gift, so I found some pretty cotton yarn in my stash and started working away.  I wanted to use sunny and bright colors that would be cheerful on the grayest winter day.  

What I came up with is the Citrus Twist Dishcloth...

A fun little dishcloth with a lot of "a-peel".  :-)

Citrus Twist Dishcloth

Materials:
100% cotton worsted weight yarn
G crochet hook

Stitches used:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch

Ch 32

Row 1:  sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn.  (31 sts now and throughout.)

Row 2:  dc in 1st st, sc in next st, *dc 2 times in next st, sk 1 st, sc in next st, repeat from * across to last two sts, sc in next st, dc in last st, ch 2, turn.

Row 3:  dc in 1st st, hdc in the next st and in each st across, end row with a dc in the last st, ch 2, turn.

Row 4 and 5:  Repeat row 3 (for a total of two additional rows).

Alternate Rows 2 and 3 until your cloth measures approx 6 1/2 inches (end with a Row 2).

Repeat Rows 3 - 5 (for a total of three additional rows).

Repeat Row 2, ch 1, turn.

Soft as Lamb Scarf

I made the pictured Soft as Lamb scarf for my sister. 

It's a light fluffy scarf that has a nice drape due to using a larger hook size than called for with worsted weight yarn.  I'm happy with the end result, but it was a bit quirky to make trying to get both sides symmetrical. 

I used  Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Wheat that I had stored in my stash.  I thought the natural color would go with a lot of things and in that sense, she would get a lot of use out of it.  It's not a Christmas present, just a "sisterly" gift and I'll give it to her next time I see her.

So with all that being said, here are the instructions for my scarf:

Soft as Lamb Scarf

6.5 oz (approx.) Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Lion Brand's Wool-Ease in Wheat)
K hook


Stitches used:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch

Small Shell = (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc)
Large Shell = (3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc)


Scarf is worked lengthwise

Ch 170 (multiples of 3 + 2 for beginning ch)

1. Small shell in 2nd ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, small shell in next ch, repeat from * across to end (total of 57 small shells).  Working in same st as last small shell, you will begin row 2.
2. Small shell in same loop as the small shell you just completed in row 1 (this will make a little circle and you'll now be on the other side of your original chain), *small shell in the next single loop created by the shell on the opposite side of your work, repeat from * across (total of 57 small shells), sl st in next sc, ch 1, do not turn work.
3. Small shell in ch-2 sp, and in each ch-2 sp across (total of 57 small shells), sl st in next 2 sc, ch 1, do not turn work (first side of edging is complete).
4. Small shell in ch-2 sp, and in each ch-2 sp across (total of 57 small shells), ch 1, turn.
5. Repeat row 4 until scarf measures 5 inches, ch 1, turn.

Burly Tweed Man's Scarf

I wanted a little distraction from the blanket I've been working on for my son........

And, with the colder weather we've been having, I decided to make a scarf for my husband......

He takes the bus to work and says the bus ride can be quite cold.  So, I dug out some masculine looking yarn from my stash and put together this scarf for him.

 I used Vanna's Choice yarn in Barley and a J hook.  This is a simple stitch pattern and with that in mind, I wanted to add a little visual interest to the texture of the stitch, so I broke it up with some straight lines in three different spots; the beginning, the middle, and the end.

It was fun to make and worked up quickly.  I've attached my instructions below for anyone who might be interested.

Burly Tweed Man’s Scarf

This scarf is sized for a taller man (approx. 6 ft or taller) and is 7.5” x 77”

Material:

10 oz Aran weight yarn (I used Vanna’s Choice in the color Barley)

J crochet hook

29 Stitches...

I needed a little break from my afghan today and I also needed a couple of dish cloths.  So, with this thought in mind, I started digging through our downstairs hall closet looking for some cotton yarn.  One of the instantly gratifying things in crochet is having yarn on hand to make what you want to make!

So I whipped up a couple of dish cloths......I'm calling it 29 Stitches......the number of stitches in the 1st row and throughout.  It's a simple pattern for a very utilitarian item.  But it was fun to make.  So without further adieu, I give you....

29 Stitches

100% Cotton yarn - worsted weight (estimating 1.5 oz; I just used what I had on hand)
Size "H" hook

ch 30

1. sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn.  (29 stitches)
2. sc in 1st sc, *sk 1 sc, (dc and sc) in next sc, repeat from * across, ch 2, turn. 
3. sc in 1st sc, *sk next dc, (dc and sc) in next sc, repeat from * across, ch 2, turn.  
4. Repeat row 3 until desired length.  (Mine measures 8 1/2 inches.)

Border

1. sc evenly around cloth, (3 sc) in each corner, sl st to beg sc, ch 1, do not turn work. 
2. rev sc evenly around cloth, sl st to beg rev sc, fasten off.  
3. Weave in ends.
