Answer to a Question...

Happy Friday!

In the comment section of my previous post, Nelissa Thibado asked about the afghan in my header.  I wanted to make sure I got back to her....

I made this blanket as a wedding gift for my husband's nephew and his wife a couple of years ago.  I think I made this in May and June and I started blogging that same year in August.

Additional details are listed on my project page on Ravelry if you are interested.

I'm looking forward to a long weekend, are you?

Our grill went kaput several weeks ago, so I think I'll do pulled pork sandwiches and coleslaw for the holiday.  Maybe even do some baked mac-n-cheese too.  Not very summery, but it sounds yummy to me.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

August Flowers Blanket

This is the little blanket I've been working on...
I'm calling it August Flowers.

The square is Grandma All Square from the Royal Sister's blog.

I did six squares across by eight squares down.
It's a nice size to go over your legs while you watch TV.

I think I'll put it in our guest room though...
it will add a little vintage charm to the room.

I really enjoyed working on this.

Flowers won't be in bloom much longer, but I'll have a colorful array in the spare room all winter long...

Hope you are having a great week...

Happy crocheting!

First Colors of Fall...

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
 - Albert Camus -

I love fall.
I'm always looking for signs of an early one.  We may have it this year.  My dogwood on our back fence line has started to turn and is getting pretty red berries.

I want to thank the people who left their kinds comments on my earlier post.  I appreciate you taking the time to write them.

Enjoy your day...
and if it is still hot where you are, I hope cooler weather is headed your way.

Layered Scallops Tote

Layered Scallops Tote
Crochet World October 2012
designed by Heather Prusia

I'm so happy to share with you my latest pattern that has been published in October 2012 issue of Crochet World.
(You have to scroll down a bit, it is toward the bottom.)

This project was a lot of fun to design and make.  It worked up quickly and is roomy enough to hold a medium sized crochet project or to carry books back and forth to the library.

I purchased the handles at JoAnn's.  They had a lot of neat ones to choose from, but I thought the wooden handles looked nice with the coffee colored yarn.  I used Red Heart Super Saver for the project; I like the wide variety of colors they offer.

Time has gotten away from me and I haven't had as much time to devote to my crochet.  I have, however, read on-line that we are supposed to have a very cold winter this year.  Sounds like perfect weather for snuggling up by a warm fire with my favorite craft; crochet.

Take care,

P.S.  Doesn't look like the pattern has been added to Ravelry yet, but hopefully it will!

Last Hurrah of Summer!

This weekend is our last before we start school on Monday.

I wanted to get in some fun family time, so we headed 2 1/2 hours North East to the rolling landscape of Hocking Hills State Park.

(I just have preface this post by saying my photos don't do this beautiful place justice.  The rock formations, caves and naturalized areas are stunning.)

We started our journey early in the morning and drove past acres and acres of farm land...

So I crocheted to pass the time...

Once we arrived, we discovered that we weren't the only ones taking advantage of a pretty day; the trails were full of weekend explorers.

The rock formations were incredible...

We had access by bridge...

and steps carved from the bedrock.

It was beautiful and awe inspiring until...

We took the trail to Rock House.  If you have any fear of heights or an inkling of over protection for your children; forget it!  My stomach was in knots the majority of this trail.  The overlooks were cliffs with easily 100 foot or more drops.

But I felt much better once we left Rock House and moved on to Ash Cave...

What a fun adventure to end the summer on!
I'm so glad we made the trip.

Has anyone been to Hocking Hills Ohio?

Happy trails!

Linking Up..

I'm linking up with Kara at Petals to Picots for her Granny Month.

Check it out if you haven't already.

She has a free granny square pattern posted on her blog today.

 - - -

I got in a little al fresco crochet yesterday and enjoyed some time on the deck this morning.  It's starting to get hot now...

I have 10 squares left to crochet on the little blanket I'm working on.  Then I can start stitching the blanket together.

I'm looking forward to wrapping it up; so many projects so little time!

Have a great day!

Blanket Preview and Saturday at the Zoo

Saturday was a gorgeous day here in Cincinnati!

With our annual membership to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in hand, we headed out for a family adventure.

I am a kid a heart and I absolutely love going to the zoo, museums, and exploring our local parks.  The zoo was crowded, but it was such a pretty day, I didn't mind.

When we first got there, the Lemur zoo keepers were educating the crowd on the (below) Madagascar native.  The little one was anxious to move on and see the big animals though; so we did.

One of my favorites is the big burly polar bear.  He was walking around his area showing off his thick white coat for the visitors...

The lions weren't active and were sleeping in their habitat...

There are "paw prints" stamped in the concrete throughout the park and dear son enjoyed stalking his own tiger...

We rode the train that takes you around a large pond.  I'm not sure what the swans are doing here, but their necks are certainly limber...

It was a fun day.
We'll go back in the fall and hopefully the autumn flowers will be in bloom.

As promised, here is a preview of the blanket I'm working on...

I still need to mix up the colors a bit.  I have 17 squares left to make and I'll add those to the width.  I'll get some pictures outside once it's complete.

Hopefully, I'll have it done soon as I have a new project I'm anxious to get started on!

Toodles for now.

Happy Monday!

Squares and a Walk

I'm six squares shy of a small lapghan.  And about 20 squares short for a nice size TV blanket.  I'll make the next six squares and see how the colors spread out...

- - -

My son and I took a nice walk through the neighborhood this morning.  I like to get out and move a little each day.  We either take our bikes or go for a walk.  This morning we opted for a walk with our cameras.

Want to take a glimpse of the sights we saw along the way?

We came across three bunnies...
playing in the ground cover...

We walked past one of my very favorite houses...

A lone daisy standing proud in the sunshine...

Men at work...

And a pretty cape cod style house nestled in the trees...

It's fun to take the camera, it makes you more aware of your surroundings.  I've walked the same stretch regularly for seven years, but taking the camera with me, always makes me look for something new.

On the crochet front, I'll let you know what I decide...

To Be Continued...

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

We had a busy weekend with lots of errands on Saturday and then Sunday, we had hubby's company picnic at Coney Island.

Coney Island is a very old amusement park on the Ohio River.  It's never very crowded and you don't have to wait too long to ride their rides.

It was an extremely hot afternoon, but we got in some putt-putt golf,

and while putting on my best Tiger Woods impression...

I saw my first sign of Fall...

(can you see the little green acorn?)

Then the rain rolled in...

We rode the bumper cars and the Python roller coaster in the rain.  If it weren't for the little one, we would have left at the first drops of rain...

I'm prone to melting...

On the way home, we stopped and picked up a pizza from LaRosa's (this is the LaRosa's at the park prior to the downpour); best pizza in Cincinnati (IMHO).

As soon as we got home, everyone put on their PJ's and we relaxed and ate our yummy pizza.  Double pepperoni...on top of the cheese.

Hope your week is off to a great start!  I'll post some more pics of my squares in the next couple of days.

Toodles for now...

Making Progress...

I've made some good progress on my squares in the last couple of days...

If I continue at this rate, I'll make a small lapgan.

A few of you commented on the muted tone afghan in my previous post.  That is a blanket I made for my son about a year and a half ago.  I called it Vintage Horizontal Stripe.  It has worn well, my son keeps it on his bed and uses it almost every day.

Kris at Simplify asked how old my son was.  He is six and will be turning seven next month.  I started reading chapter books to him about a year ago.  I've always read to him, even as a baby, Hungry Caterpillar; Brown Bear, Brown Bear; Good Night Moon; etc.  Even though he can now read for himself, I still read to him.  It's a bit of quality time for us at the end of the day...

I went outside this evening to check on my flowers and got eaten alive by mosquitoes.  My shady patch garden isn't really thriving like it has in past years.  Our rainfall hasn't been consistent...

And the moles are excavating their underground mazes like crazy in our yard...

Must be the time of year, we probably need to put something on our lawn to kill the grubs.

That's it for me...

Wishing you a happy Friday and a fun filled weekend!
