For a little Valentine cheer, I decided to stitch up a couple of dishcloths. I usually give away the dishcloths I make to accompany a gift I've selected for someone. I decided to keep these, with their vintage feel, for myself...
These are very easy to make using basic stitches; single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. A simple border completes them and reminds me of days gone by...
Vintage Valentine Dishcloth

Hook: I
Worsted Weight 100% cotton yarn (I just used what I had on hand)
Finished size: 9 x 10
Note: If you prefer a smaller dishcloth, try using a smaller hook such as an "h" or "g", or you could use a dk yarn vs. a worsted weight yarn.
Ch 27
- sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (26 sts now and throughout)
- hdc in 1st sc and in each sc across, ch 2, turn.
- dc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across, ch 1, turn.
- hdc in 1st dc and in each dc across, ch 1, turn.
- sc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across, ch 1, turn.
- hdc in 1st sc and in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
- Repeat row 6 to 1" short of desired length.
- sc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across, ch 1, turn.
- hdc in 1st sc and in each sc across, ch 2, turn.
- dc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across, ch 1, turn.
- hdc in 1st dc and in each dc across, ch 1, turn.
- sc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across, ch 1, turn.
Border
- sc evenly around cloth with (3 sc) in each corner, sl st in beg sc, fasten off.
- Attach red in any corner, ch 1, sc evenly around cloth with (3 sc) in each corner, sl st in beg sc, fasten off.
- Attach white in any corner, ch 1, *sc, ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around placing (sc, ch 1, sc in each corner), sl st in beg sc, fasten off.
- Weave in ends.

ReplyDeleteVery nice Heather. I like dishcloths that are mainly white because I bleach them and the fading isn't as noticeable on mainly white cloths.
